Everything is a Human Construct

Everything is a Human Construct

Muka Gallery, Auckland New Zealand, 2008

Producing Images has become an exercise in philosophy…

Despite our best efforts there will always be a screen between us and “reality”.

A baby first explores reality by taking things into its mouth. Everything we know is in the first place, a product of sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, stereognosis; our sense in combination with our organized mind. Even nature as portrayed in these images is constructed, a man-made  lake, a photo of a man-made lake, a photocopy of a man-made lake, a lithograph of a photocopy of a photo of a man-made lake…

Layer upon layer through the ink-loaded rollers of a press… We roll and fold our human reality, constructing it, deconstructing it, constructing it again, destroying and creating,

With enough butter and sugar, it may even be palatable…
